Brakes, measured not guessed

Brake work has one job: the car must stop straight, every time, without noise. We measure pad thickness, rotor thickness and runout, check caliper slide pins and hoses, and test the fluid's boiling point. Then we photograph it all.

Most brake jobs here are pads-and-rotors on one axle — done in about two hours with a proper break-in drive. Calipers, hoses and ABS issues take longer but follow the same rule: you see the measurements first.

Edmonton winters are hard on brakes — road salt seizes slide pins and corrodes rotors from the inside. A yearly check is genuinely cheap insurance here, which is why it's free with any visit.

The process

How a brake job goes

Six steps, about two hours for a standard axle job.

Step 1 · 15 min
Road test + measurement

We feel the pedal and listen for the noise, then measure pads, rotor thickness and runout on the lift.

Step 2
Photo report + quote

Millimetres on paper: what you have vs. what the factory spec allows. You approve the work before a wheel comes off.

Step 3
Strip & clean

Calipers off, slide pins cleaned and re-greased, hub faces wire-brushed so new rotors sit true.

Step 4
Install

New pads and rotors, hardware kit replaced, torque wrench on every lug — never the impact gun on final pass.

Step 5
Break-in drive

A proper bedding cycle so the pads seat evenly — this is what prevents the squeal cheap jobs get blamed for.

Step 6
Invoice with numbers

Old parts boxed for your trunk, measurements on the invoice, 24-month warranty printed on it too.

Brake questions we hear weekly

Most of the time, yes. Modern rotors are thin — machining them leaves too little metal to shed heat, and pads on a worn surface wear fast and noisy. We show you the thickness either way.

Usually overnight surface rust on the rotors — normal in our climate, gone after a few stops. Squeal that stays, or comes with a grinding edge, needs a look.

Almost always rotor thickness variation or runout. We measure both; sometimes a hub cleaning fixes it without parts. Either way you get the numbers first.

Every 2–3 years. Fluid absorbs moisture, the boiling point drops, and pedal feel goes soft. We test it free during any inspection.

Yes — pads, rotors, calipers and fluid on any EV. Regen braking means friction parts often last longer but seize from disuse, so inspections matter more, not less.
