Engine diagnostics & repair
in Edmonton
Check-engine light on, rough idle, a knock you can't place — our engine diagnostics in Edmonton find the actual cause with dealer-level scanners and a compression gauge, not a guessing game.
What engine diagnostics covers here
Most shops plug in a code reader and start selling parts. We treat the code as a clue, not an answer: the scan gives us the direction, then we measure — compression, fuel trim, live sensor data, smoke test for vacuum leaks. Only after the cause is confirmed do we quote the repair.
Typical visits: misfires, oil consumption, coolant loss, timing-chain rattle, stubborn check-engine lights that come back after other shops "fixed" them. If it turns out to be a $40 sensor, that's what you pay for — and we'll show you the readings that prove it.
We keep OEM software for VW Group, BMW, Ford, GM, Toyota, Honda and Hyundai/Kia, so module-level work stays in-house instead of a tow to the dealer.
Engine work, priced openly
Every line below is real. Your exact quote depends on the engine — a 4-cylinder Civic and a supercharged V8 are different afternoons — but you get the number in writing first.
| Full-module diagnostic scan report + live data review | from $89 |
| Compression / leak-down test | from $150 |
| Smoke test — vacuum & EVAP leaks | from $130 |
| Spark plugs 4 cyl, parts incl. | from $160 |
| Ignition coils per coil, parts incl. | from $180 |
| Valve cover / oil pan gasket | from $320 |
| Timing chain or belt service | from $950 |
| Engine mount per mount | from $280 |
From dashboard light to fixed
Six steps — the same whether it's a misfire or a mystery noise.
You describe when it happens — cold starts, highway, idle. Details here save real diagnostic time.
We pull codes from every module and read the conditions the fault was recorded under.
Compression, smoke test, oscilloscope on the suspect sensor — whichever test the codes point at.
You get the readings, photos and a written quote. Approve it, or take the report — it's yours either way.
Most sensor, gasket and ignition jobs finish the same day. Timing work takes 1–2 days.
A second tech road-tests it, we re-scan to confirm the fault is gone, then hand over the keys.

A trouble code tells you where to look, not what to replace. The part is the last step, never the first.
